Gaze Upon the Sites of Menlo Park

After your eye exam at University Optometry, it’s time to explore the sites of Menlo Park with your clear 20/20 vision. Bordered by San Francisco Bay and Palo Alto, this neighborhood has loads of quaint charm, less than a half hour away from the electric energy of San Francisco. You can relax your body and mind with a stroll through the green fields of Bedwell Bayfront Park. Climb to the top of one of the grassy hills to gaze upon a magnificent view of the bay.

From University Optometry to Bedwell Bayfront Park:

Head northeast on University Ave toward Fulton St. Use the right lane to take the ramp onto US-101 N and take exit 406 for CA-84 E/Marsh Rd. Get in the 2nd from the right lane to turn right onto CA-84 E/Marsh Rd. Drive straight onto Marsh Rd and then turn right to stay on Marsh Rd. You have arrived!

Cultural Gems

A legendary intellectual and cultural hotspot in Menlo Park is Kepler’s Books. Founded in 1955 by Roy Kepler, a memorable peace activist, this bookstore features an eclectic array of reading materials. Popular literary events are also hosted here regularly. Another Menlo Park nook for book lovers is Feldman’s Books, with a quirky collection of over 50,000 books. This shop is housed in the oldest house in the neighborhood, complete with a picturesque courtyard for you to rest and skim your reading options.

Once you’ve had your fill of the written word and are in the mood to watch a film instead, visit The Guild. This historic local theater dates back to 1926, and much of the original décor survived. You can catch an indie film or cult favorite at this retro venue.

Fans of more contemporary culture should be sure to stop by the original Facebook Headquarters, located in Menlo Park. Don’t miss a photo op next to the huge thumbs-up sign.

Funky & Fabulous Food

Menlo Park has a number of fun places for foodies. Grab a burger with your choice of 12 beers on tap at The Dutch Goose. For more fancy fare, head to the Menlo Grill Bistro & Bar, where you can enjoy a cozy meal on soft leather seats next to a brick fireplace. After the sun sets, The Refuge is a trendy nighttime hub that serves sandwiches (pastrami is a specialty!) in a homey, feel-good atmosphere.
